I am staring out the passenger window. I have checked the address we were given and noted that there was no directional advice from our starting point other than it would seem like we were heading to nowhere in the desert for twenty minutes until we came across a building and at that point we will have arrived. We are in search of a recommended restaurant that is off the beaten path and ten minutes into our quest we are still driving through streets lined with cream coloured adobe building of...

I have been sitting with ideas and letting them percolate lately. A large part of my creative process doesn't always appear the most creative - to an outsider it's me sitting quietly staring out into space. This morning I sipped my coffee and got to thinking about this year's entry into Jewel Envy's themed competition Winter Wedding. Things are starting to form in my mind...

I am back in the studio after taking part in the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibit. I thought I would jump back into work right away, but today is my day of inaction.
I wanted to thank all the folks that visited me, bought pieces, came to give me treats, or lent a helping hand. I relish the opportunity to step outside of my introspective head-space to interact with people and chat about my work. I feel very fortunate to have been a part of the art show this year.
If you didn’t get the chance...

After typing in the title for this installment of my blog a vision of a post-apocalyptic world sprang into my mind. Myself scaling decaying glass, steel and cement structures, heading towards the nearest forest cover where my feet will eventually reach an expanse of natures most beautiful creation, grass. I can imagine the damp cool feeling between my toes and the comfort of the slight give of the soil beneath my feet. There may or may not be zombies in the vicinity, or the threat...

I am super excited about my upcoming participation in the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition, so I will be updating more frequently leading up to the event in July with the work I will be making. My picture taking skills are getting better, but I hope that a glimpse at these works gets you excited to see it in person at the show!
The rings in this post have been in the making for a while. I had the enamel components made a couple of months ago...

After concentrating my attention on creating my evil eyes (in the post below) I decided to embrace basic enamel techniques. Focusing on the colour combinations to make a necklace for my friend Jenna's birthday. This piece was created with vitreous enamel that I sifted onto each side of the pieces that are hand cut from copper. You can flip the necklace and have a slightly different look.

After coming back from vacation and working nonstop on my Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibit application for the week leading up to the due date I didn't think that I was going to be creating any work to submit to Zilberschmuck's themed show that was due the following week. Especially since I didn't initially have any ideas. My mom came up with a great suggestion to make a garlic necklace and I was riding out that idea in my head before I thought about making evil eye jewellery...

Tonight is the Annual General Meeting for the Metal Arts Guild. As an icebreaker they encourage members to create pins that they can swap with others. Yesterday, knowing that I am dying to trade with other creative folk I decided to whip up some enamel brooches. Instead of creating perfect forms I searched through my copper scrap bin for pieces with an interesting shape that I wouldn't have to alter. I have quite a few pieces from my hydraulic press dyes that didn't work out...

Today I was able to keep a better watch over my painted enamel pieces when they were in the kiln with UV googles that aren't as dark as mine. So, each of them turned out wonderfully. Each of these was done on a coloured layered instead of the a white background, like the ones in yesterday's post. Now comes the tricky part - fabricating something to set these babies into. I am unsure of what to make them into - pendant? ring? brooch? Help me decide!

Lately I have been extremely creatively scattered. I have been burning myself out by making things at home - stenciling some handmade pillows, cutting linoleum prints, and doing some painting. Also, attempting to organize things to avoid working. I spent way too many hours online scouring for a new duvet cover. Go ahead and judge me. However, since I painted my bedroom I have been in need of something that matches the new colour (insert rampant consumer jab here). In between my online...
